Signing up and working towards status

Confirmation

We will confirm your application by email and include an invoice or receipt within seven working days.

Mentoring and/or befriending projects are only eligible to work towards APS that are either fully operational or in the process of setting up and who can successfully evidence their outcomes at assessment within the 12 month working towards period.

Working towards status is valid for a period of 12 months. You must have received your assessment visit within this period. If you do not request your assessment visit within the 12 month period, you will need to re-start the process and sign up to work towards APS.

Multi site applications are confirmed only when full project details are supplied of all the projects that will be covered under the multi site application.  MBF reserves the right to cancel or re-negotiate the fee for multi site applications once full project details are provided.

MBF reserves the right to cancel any application that they feel is not eligible for APS.

Assessment

It is the responsibility of the project to make sure that their project is ready for assessment. Please consult our assessment visit preparation for further details.

We will assess and verify each project from the evidence and information that is provided during the assessment process. We will not be held responsible for the safe and effective ongoing delivery of the project.

APS accreditation and logo

You may only state that your project is approved with APS once you have successfully been through the assessment process and been notified of approval.  Accreditation is only associated with the project that is being assessed and is only valid for a three year period.  These details are shown on your APS approval certificate.  Beyond this date, if you do not gain re-accreditation, you cannot state that your accreditation is valid or display the APS logo.   Misuse of the APS accreditation or the APS logo may result in your project not being able to re-apply for APS.

Cancellations

All cancellations must be received in writing or by email to orders@mandbf.org. An administration charge of £100 will apply to all applications that have been confirmed.

If an assessment visit has been arranged and you wish to cancel or re-arrange the assessment, you may be liable for assessor travel costs depending on the arrangements that have been made.

NOMS APS bursary offer

A free APS bursary is available to mentoring projects that meet the following criteria:

  1. Provide a specific mentoring service that is entirely or mainly for the benefit of offenders or ex-offenders aged 18+ in either prison or in the community
  2. The mentoring project already is in existence or is in the process of being set up and will be able to provide evidence of outcomes at point of assessment (within 12 months of signing up)
  3. The service operates in England and/or Wales
  4. You are not currently approved with APS or due for re-accreditation.

Mentoring is defined in the widest terms and includes befriending, circles of support, peer listening, peer advice and peer learning. It may be offered through one-to-one, group, telephone/text based or online methods.

This APS bursary covers the cost of the fee only. The above APS terms and conditions still apply in relation to cancellations, APS accreditation and logo, assessment and confirmation.

Bursaries will be allocated on a first-come first-served basis but we will also be looking for a balanced geographical spread of projects.
