The aim of this course is:

Part A provides those of you with little or no experience of training with an introduction to the ‘what’ and ‘how’ of initial induction and mentor training. It will give you the opportunity to experience a range of tried and tested activities and explore how you can adapt them to prepare your volunteers for their role.

Developed to help you meet elements 8 of our Approved Provider Standard. Training your volunteer mentors or befrienders (advanced): part B is available for those who wish to further enhance their training skills.APS logo

This course will help you to:

• Understand the importance of learning styles theory when training your volunteers
• Identify the content of training needed to prepare mentors and befrienders for their roles
• Determine what activities from our toolkit will be most appropriate for initial mentor and befrienders training
• Adapt these activities to suit your specific mentor and befrienders training programme

Who should attend?

Those with little or no experience of training who are responsible for either training their volunteer mentors and befrienders directly or for commissioning appropriate mentor and befriender training.
