Support for schools and colleges
Peer support schemes are widespread in schools and colleges and range from buddy schemes in primary schools to one-to-one peer mentoring schemes in secondary schools and colleges. These schemes help to maintain a healthy learning environment by supporting the emotional well-being of students, helping to improve attainment and helping to build confidence and self-esteem.
How we can help
We have over 20 years’ experience of working with schools and colleges to develop approaches to peer mentoring/peer support and have developed a range of training and toolkits:
Setting up and managing a peer support programme in your school or college: a one day training course which provides you with practical guidance on how to set up peer support programmes in your school or college. We can deliver this in-house to staff from your own school or college, or staff members drawn from a cluster of schools/colleges.
One day peer mentor training for students: a one day course which provides your students with the skills and knowledge to be peer mentors. It is a practical course providing lots of opportunities for skills practise and we will come and deliver this course at your school or college. Find out more about the in-house options in schools and colleges.
We can also help you achieve the Approved Provider Standard which is an NCVO quality standard for your peer mentoring and befriending project.

There are many examples of excellent work being achieved through peer mentoring and peer support, read this case study from Budmouth Technology College for an example of the type of scheme you may develop:
