Training and events
We regularly review our offer in line with your feedback, enquiries, and the information we gather from the APS assessments and consultancy we undertake. This means we can respond to needs or emerging trends in the mentoring and befriending sector when planning our training programme.
Our new programme reflects this, and so in addition to our two core courses which cover the essentials of setting up and managing a good practice mentoring/peer mentoring or befriending projects we have three new courses. All courses, as always, are delivered by trainers who have real practical experience and expertise in the subject to ensure you gain most value from attending.
What are the courses?
How will you ensure that you develop your project in line with good practice? These two courses will give you practical guidance on how to set up and manage a safe, and effective, mentoring, peer mentoring or befriending service. Each course links to the relevant requirements of our Approved Provider Standard, NCVO’s specialist quality standard for mentoring and befriending projects. To ensure you cover all aspects of setting up a good practice project we suggest you attend both Part A and Part B.
What sort of conversations take place in mentoring or befriending relationships? This one day course is intended to help you experience or refresh your understanding of the essential techniques that underpin successful mentoring and befriending relationships. It will build skills and knowledge and is relevant to anyone who is involved in mentoring or befriending.
A significant contributory factor to the success and long term sustainability of any mentoring or befriending service is the support given to volunteer mentors and befrienders. It is an essential part of a co-ordinators role and this one day course will cover the principles of supervision and the skills and techniques in both one to one and group supervision. These are also skills that can be used when supervising project staff so whatever your role you will benefit from the course.
Coaching is an essential skillset for any manager, leader or team supervisor. A coaching conversation helps managers and leaders to develop a more motivated and empowered team, including your volunteers. This is a practical introduction to the main coaching skills and techniques which will enable you to hold a coaching style conversation in confidence.
