APS and other quality standards
We recognise that many of our network members’ organisations will hold other quality standards, either their own internal ones or externally validated ones. Many of these include areas which are relevant to our own Approved Provider Standard.
One of these is the Age UK Organisational Quality Standards
(OQS) and we have developed an arrangement with Age UK which will allow local Age UKs and local Age Cymru partners to ‘passport’ aspects of their OQS certification through to APS, and also receive a 10% discount on the price of their APS application.
What’s involved in ‘passporting’
Local Age UK and local Age Cymru partners which intend to apply to achieve APS for their mentoring/befriending project through this passporting arrangement must hold a current OQS award.
Firstly, you will need to apply to achieve the standard by going to Sign up for APS, making sure you select the Age UK OQS discount. Once we have received confirmation from Age UK that you hold their OQS, and that you agree to the terms and conditions, we shall issue an invoice.
On receipt of payment we will send you the APS detailed guidance and self-assessment tool along with additional guidance explaining which parts of APS are passported and how to approach the assessment process. All projects will benefit from the support package provided to projects applying to achieve the standard. For further information on the APS process, visit What’s involved.
About Age UK and their quality standards
Age UK is the country’s largest charity dedicated to helping everyone make the most of later life. Age UK supports and assists a network of more than 170 local Age UKs. This network also includes Age Scotland, Age NI, Age Cymru and local Age Cymru partners.
Commitment to quality is at the heart of the Age UK network and is underpinned by a set of Organisational Quality Standards (OQS) which focus on six key areas of quality and are externally assessed by industry leaders SGS. The Organisational Quality Standards are also endorsed by the Charity Commission, the regulatory body for charities.
