• Share Friends befriending service – Birmingham

  The Share Friends befriending service is for people aged 18 – 65 with learning disability or learning and physical disabilities that wish to access activities, friendships and new opportunities within their community. They recruit, train and vet volunteers from all cultures and backgrounds across Birmingham, facilitating one-to-one befriending relationships with disabled adults.

• Meningitis Research Foundation – Befriender Network

  Meningitis Research Foundation’s (MRF) Befriender Network was set up in 2000 and provides a network of trained befrienders who all have different experiences of meningitis and septicaemia. They aim to match and provide telephone support to anyone affected by meningitis and septicaemia.

• Neighbourhood Care Scheme

  The good neighbour befriending scheme operates in nine neighbourhoods within the city of Brighton and Hove. Over 210 volunteers provide support to a similar number of older people and adults with physical disabilities helping them to get out of their homes, assisting them with their shopping and generally providing long-term companionship. In two of the communities, volunteers are also able to support carers.
