Policy and evidence

By linking our policy work with research and feedback from projects we can provide a strong and credible voice for the mentoring and befriending community.

Building the evidence brings together links to published research studies and individual project evaluation reports to demonstrate the full impact of mentoring and befriending activity, alongside case study evidence from individuals who have benefited from being part of a project.

We have run a number of events to showcase the positive impact that mentoring and befriending including the 2010 Mentoring and Befriending Recognition Awards which were part of the Supporting Life’s Journeys campaign, and an evening reception at 10 Downing Street when over 130 volunteers, service users and practitioners were recognised.

We were also commissioned by the South West Joint Improvement Partnership in 2011 to develop a guide for commissioners of social care across adult services to inform them about how befriending is being delivered in the South West region to improve health and well-being outcomes, increase independence and reduce the need for long-term care and support.  It sets out clearly the process and steps needed to effectively commision high quality befriending services.

Find out how you can get involved in our policy and evidence work – we want to hear your stories and use your evidence to make sure that the full impact of mentoring and befriending is collected and available to all.
