Accreditation for peer tutoring and befriending skills

24 May 2011

The AQA Unit Award Scheme is a scheme for recording achievement which gives a student recognition for completing short units of work.  One of their Level 3 Skills Award Units is:  Acting as a peer tutor and befriender for fellow students.

This accreditation may be of particular interest to secondary schools who use peer tutoring or peer mentoring and can be useful for sixth form students who can put it on their UCAS statement and to final year university students applying for PGSE or GTTP teaching courses.

For this unit, a student will work as a peer tutor and befriender for one academic term with different pupils, either from Y7, 8, 9, 10 or 11. The student will undertake a one day training course to gain and develop tutoring and befriending skills and will take part in a group evaluation session at the end of the term.

Our thanks to Success4All based in Newcastle upon Tyne who sent us the information about this award.
