Volunteering as a mentor or befriender
Many mentoring and befriending services rely on people of all ages and backgrounds to volunteer as mentors or befrienders. Projects will provide relevant training and support to enable you to volunteer effectively and will have their own recruitment procedures (likely to include an application form, interview and take up of references).
To find a volunteering opportunity:
Check out the mentoring and befriending volunteering opportunities listed here on the Do-It website and apply direct to the relevant organisation
See if your local CVS, Voluntary Action or Volunteer Centre produces a list of local voluntary organisations delivering mentoring or befriending which you could contact
Search our Network Member project directory above for a range of schemes in your area that are delivering mentoring or befriending – look for the APS logo which shows they been quality assured by us
Find mentoring opportunities with voluntary organisations that work with offenders and their families
Download our free leaflet How to find a mentor or befriender information sheet which outlines what the volunteer mentor/befriender role entails, the key benefits it brings and how to go about finding a volunteering opportunity.
